  1.       The  DISCOTEST  program,  which presents a Patient Management Problem
  2.  case simulation, is self-explanatory.  As you move through the simulation,
  3.  you will receive step-by-step instructions on how to proceed.

  5.       When  you  are  asked  to  choose  from  more than one selection in a
  6.  numbered  list,  choose one answer at a time.  Hit the 'RETURN' or 'ENTER'
  7.  key after each response.   The order in which you pick selections does not
  8.  affect your score.

  12.       When you choose from a list of diagnostic or  management  selections,
  13.  the  results  of  that  choice will be displayed.  Below the results  will
  14.  appear a request that you type any key to continue.  If no further choices
  15.  in that section are necessary, the program will proceed  automatically  to
  16.  the next section of the test.   If additional choices in that section  are
  17.  optional  or  required,  DISCOTEST  will  display  again  the same list of
  18.  selections; when you feel you have made all the appropriate selections and
  19.  are  ready  to continue, type a capital `E` (for End or Exit).  This  will
  20.  bring you to the next section.

  22.       If  the  screen  displays  a Yes/No question, type a 'Y' or an 'N' to
  23. respond, then hit `RETURN`.

  27.       During  the  test  there  will  be  a prompt  line highlighted at the
  28.  bottom of your  computer  screen  to remind  you  that you may review your
  29.  previous  answers  or quit the program and restart it later.  For example,
  30.  during certain parts of the program you may press the 'F9' function key to
  31.  go  back  and  review  what  you have already done.  If you do not see the
  32.  'F9=Review' prompt at the bottom of your screen, then that key will not do
  33.  anything if you press it.

  35.       After you have pressed the 'F9' key, you will be able to  review  the
  36.  case simulation  sections  you  have  already  completed by using the 'F7'
  37.  and  'F8'  function  keys  to move backward and  forward.  The screen will
  38.  display previously completed sections.  By pressing any key you may review
  39.  your  answers  to questions in a particular section.  (If you did not make 
  40.  any  selections in a section, you will not be allowed to review it.)   You
  41.  will not be allowed to change your answers, nor will you see  the  results
  42.  of any choices you did not select earlier.  When  you  are  in  the review
  43.  mode, you may press the  'F10' function  key to quit the review and return
  44.  to the test.

  48.       Use the 'PrtSc' key  (shift to upper case)  to print any  screen  for
  49.  reference as you go along.

  51.       When you see the 'F10=Quit' prompt at the bottom of your screen,  you
  52.  can exit the program by pressing the 'F10'  function  key.   You  will  be
  53.  asked to confirm  that  decision,  and then the  program  will end,  after
  54.  storing  your responses.   You may restart the case simulation at the same
  55.  point.

  59.       Four hours of CME  credit are available  for each  case  simulation.
  60.  CREDIT WILL BE EARNED  ONLY WHEN THE CASE IS COMPLETED FOR THE FIRST TIME.
  61.  The CME  credit  is only  available  to  registered  SCIENTIFIC  AMERICAN
  62.  Medicine  DISCOTEST  users.    A  coded  series  of  18  numbers will  be
  63.  displayed  after  the  test  for  you  to copy down onto the preaddressed
  64.  postcard provided.

  66.       Write down these numbers carefully -- THEY  WILL NEVER  BE  DISPLAYED
  67.  AGAIN,  and  you  cannot  receive  credit without them.  You will  receive
  68.  confirmation  of your  CME  credit  by  mail.   A breakdown of  the scores
  69.  obtained  on this test by other DISCOTEST subscribers will be sent at that
  70.  time as well.

  74.       When  you run  the test  for  the  first  time -- that is, for  CME
  75.  credit -- a critique  of your answers  will be presented at the end. After
  76.  the first time through, you may rerun the case as often as you  wish,  and
  77.  each time you will be offered the critique-as-you-go option. If you select
  78.  this  option,  you  will  see  a critique of each of your responses as you
  79.  enter it and a general critique at the end of each section.  If you do not
  80.  select  this  option, the test will follow its usual format,  displaying a
  81.  complete critique at the end.
